Five teddies in new children’s arms tonight. We started the morning early with breakfast for several hundred staff members at Eastern Health. Then at noon, Santa found a wonderful daycare with some sweet young children. But the highlight of the day was Santa’s visit to Ronald McDonald House and sitting on the floor with a house full of kids reading the Night Before Christmas. A Little girl in a wheelchair has Teddy and promises to look after him forever.
Santa joined Buddy the Puffin at center ice and we collected thousands and thousands of teddy bears at the hockey game. Another busy day tomorrow and we start with “the Flight to the North Pole” at 6am.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to catch Bruce Templeton at a public speaking engagement, now is your chance! Bruce is one of six individuals who have been tapped for an upcoming TEDx event in St. John’s, NL. The event’s theme could not be more fitting, Make+Belief. Templeton will be joined at the event by Todd Saunders, Anne Malone, Kris McNeil, Mike Hartmann, and Anahareo Doelle.
There are still some tickets available for the May 22 engagement, which will be at BMW St. John’s and doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:25pm start.
We have learned that Bruce Templeton will be inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame in October 2014 at a gala event. Announced by former Lt. Governor Edward Roberts, who is the chair of the selection committee, Bruce is one of eight individuals who will be inducted into the hall this year.
“The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame allows exceptional people to stand as an inspiration to our community, and particularly to our youth,” said Roberts during the announcement.
The gala and induction event will take place on Friday, October 3 at the Sheraton Hotel, starting at 6:30pm with a silent auction before the dinner at 7:30pm. Proceeds from the event will go to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and more information is available on the Volunteer Hall of Fame’s website.
It’s that time of year where you and your family are no doubt reflecting on memories of Christmases past and looking forward to making new ones this year.
Bruce Templeton is very busy helping Santa with his visits to various places in Newfoundland and Labrador ahead of the big night, but he’s also working with Santa to put together a new collection of stories. He called in a favour with the jolly old elf himself to make a short call for story submissions, which you can see below.
Santa even plays a little Christmas ditty on the piano! Anyone wishing to forward their memories and stories of times they or their children have met Santa, thanks to Bruce’s help can forward info along to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As part of the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries author reading series, Bruce Templeton will be reading from The Man in the Red Suit on March 20, 2013. The event will take place from 7pm to 8pm at the A.C. Hunter Library in the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre on the second floor.
Bruce will read from his Globe and Mail Bestseller The Man in the Red Suit for 25 minutes or so, with an opportunity for questions, and refreshments afterwords. Everyone is welcome to attend!
